The Svea stove by Optimus has been popular with light-and-fast climbers and back country hikers for more than a century. In the modern age, where technological design, and space age materials rule, this age old outdoor stove is the equivalent to the original mousetrap; simple, light, compact, durable and effective.

The lid doubles as your cook pot, therefore no loose parts to misplace, and one less item to have to search for in your backpack. In addition, the handle serves as a maintenance tool – clever! A built-in cleaning needle helps you keep the flame burning and that pot of nourishment simmering.

The exacting flame control lets you unpack your kit while the soup simmers, but you can get it boiling hard quickly when you can’t wait.

The Svea is great for solo hikers, high-altitude adventures (uses white gas for best efficiency), or anytime super light is super right.

Includes:

  • Burner, valve and small cooking pot (lid), user manual

Svea Stove Features:

  • Classical, light-weight gas stove of solid brass
  • This stove is renowned for its performance at high altitudes
  • Self pressurized tank, no pump needed
  • Ideal for solo and high-altitude mountaineering tours and wherever packing volume and weight are critical

My Coleman 505 Pocket II (1978) crapped out on me and I wished it would've happened sooner. It was nostalgic to have but I'm not going to miss pressurizing by pumping or scrubbing soot from my cookware. The Svea is half the weight, heat-pressurized and its all-brass construction is robust. The design is uncomplicated and it looks great. Clearly, my nostalgic sentiment was misplaced. I love this thing. I bought a Solo Stove 1800 SS pot to go with it and I have no regrets. Oh, and the items came one day early (!) which was a pleasant surprise.

I bought the SVEA1233R from Stapleton's years ago in preparation for a trip across the Trans Labrador Highway, because it will run on white gas, and gasoline in a pinch.

Numerous internet reviews pointed to this modern version of the classic SVEA123 as a workhorse that seldom failed, if ever. After using it for nine years,I've only had one minor problem that was easily righted by replacing a seal and pip.

Many of my friends are impressed with it's small pack size, and ease of use compared to stoves like the MSR Whisperlite etc. For the SVEA, you prime, run, and replace windscreen and cook your food. I pack mine in set of nesting pots similar to the Terra Weekend HE Cook set.

This stove is wicked, and although a tad heavy for backpacking, it is a wonderful piece of kit and will burn just under an hour on a full tank of Coleman stove fuel. It'll boil 500ml of water in under 8 minutes, so that one tank of fuel will easily last a weekend of "boil ups".

Cheers!
